Fred H. Bixby Foundation

The Bixby Foundation is dedicated to supporting field research concerning population growth and family planning. The VIDAII program has received several grants from the Bixby Foundation to fund research and implement projects in the community concerning women, pregnancy, and family planning issues. In addition, the Bixby Foundation funded a colloquium at SDSU entitled, Populations Growing: a Public Health Response to Growing Populations.

The Bixby Foundation has awarded grants to VIIDAI in the following amounts:

  • $10,000 in 2005
  • $35,000 in 2006
  • $97,000 in 2007
  • $585,000 in 2008

Rotary Club

Several local Rotary Clubs have donated generous amounts of money and time to ensuring the continued success of VIIDAI.  All of the VIIDAI participants are grateful for their generous and continued support.

La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club
Since 2000, the Rotary Club of La Mesa has donated thousands of dollars and secured additional material donations to assist the university students provide services and educational opportunities. Rotarians also attend the trips to Mexico to volunteer their time. In the past, the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club has donated playground equipment, computers for the local school, clinical supplies, and even two ambulances. They are currently trying set up a permanent facility that will offer services to the local population on an ongoing basis.

Del Mar Rotary Club
The Del Mar Rotary Club has generously donated funds to provide medical equipment and dental equipment during VIIDAI. This club also recently funded the complete remodel of an elementary school kitchen at one of the colonias. The kitchen remodel was completed in the spring of 2008 and will allow the school cooks to prepare and store healthy, nutrictious meals for the students.

Shelter Island Rotary Club

Amigos de los Californios

Amigos de los Californios is a non-profit organization based in California that operates dental clinics in various villages in Baja California, Mexico. In 2007 Amigos de los Californios began partnering with the VIIDAI project. Through the generous efforts of the Amigos volunteer staff, Amigos de los Californios has provided dental services and supplies to many children during the Fall VIIDAI trips.

Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood has supplied SDSU students with reproductive health teaching materials in Spanish.  Planned Parenthood also supplies free family planning items such as condoms.

Desert Inn Hotel and Resort

The Desert Inn (formerly known as La Pinta Hotel and Resort) assists in housing about 200 staff and students for a three night stay in San Quintin at a discounted rate. They also supply all students and staff with prepared breakfast every morning.

Tijiuana Medical Suppliers

Various medical companies in Tijiuana Mexico supply UABC students with medical equipment and supplies. Supplies include items such as creams, cold and flu medicines, acetametaphine and aspirin. Toiletry supplies are also contributed such as lotions, shampoos, toothpaste and soaps.
